Built-in Sponge for Dior Powder

Christian Dior turned to Alcan Packaging Beauty to design its Diorshow Powder packaging. The packaging features a patented system where the product is dispensed directly into the sponge. This innovative packaging design earned a spot as an International Package Design Award finalist (see page 44).

The cap is engraved with the initials “CD”, and both the cap and the ring around the base of the jar are finished in gloss silver metallic. More information: www.alcanpackaging.com.

New Look for Nivea Beauté, courtesy of DieterBakicDesign

Munich-based DieterBakicDesign carried out a substantial revision of brand logo and packaging for Nivea Beauté, a Beiersdorf brand. DieterBakic’s team focused on the essential character of the brand and identified simplicity and authenticity as key concepts. On a tangible level, this is expressed in the return of the round shape of the classic Nivea tin, according to DBE. A new color scheme was also introduced, making use of a shimmering blue. Cosfibel Dresses Up Bourjois

Bourjois has utilized a secondary package for its Grains de beauté shower gel range. The packaging, created by Cosfibel Creative Packaging, utilizes a bright color palette meant to appeal to women.

In keeping with the fun tone set by the product names (names such as “pamper me” and “spoil me” when translated to English), the packages make use of bright oranges, greens and purples to stand out on shelf. Gels are packaged together with promotional items, such as mugs or watches. More information: 44-7968-608-758.

Great Package: No “Lye”!

Great Northern Corp., Appleton, WI, provided the developers of Dr. Miracle’s No-Lye Relaxer with a web offset process that allows for quality printing on paperboard: StrataGraph. The cartons, created with MeadWestvaco’s Kraftpak, a .022/63#, natural-brown, virgin-fiber paperboard, fit the company’s emphasis on natural goodness, while the graphics created an upscale image.

Great Northern Corp. uses a UV-based dry-trapping ink process. As each color of ink is applied, the paperboard moves through a fast-acting dryer.  The dried ink forms a polymer that sits on top of the paperboard acts and acts as a base for the application of the next layer of ink.
